In a speech at the 12th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Chinese President Hu Jintao underlined China's stance on Asian cooperation.

He pledged his country's support to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts to help create a peaceful and stable regional environment.

Hu said China opposes all forms of terrorism and supports APEC work for economic development, also welcoming the group's decision to crack down on corruption.

The president voiced hopes that all members will follow the principles of equality, mutual benefit and respect for differences. China will set up an Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center to help step up exchanges and capacity-building.

Hu proposed that APEC enhance work in the energy field to develop alternative sources and provide affordable energy products for the poor.

He also urged APEC members to adopt effective measures to maintain economic growth.
